The Food
If you're in the mood for fresh, authentic Tex-Mex, you've come to the right place. Daily lunch specials abound, including enchiladas espinaca, homemade corn tortillas wrapped around a creamy spinach-veggie mixture and served with spicy black beans and white rice laced with cilantro. If you're in the mood for an appetizer, stick with chips and salsa. It's out of this world, with chunks
of tomatoes and just the right amount of heat so you're not always reaching for water. .

The Place:
In 1981, Cynthia Perez and her sister, Lidia, longed for the food they grew up eating. So they started their own restaurant, Las Manitas or little hands.
"Las Manitas, to me is the university of rice and beans," said Owner Cynthia Perez. "With all the advancements in technology, all the progress the world has made there's nothing that can transmit what a person feels when they are given a homemade tortilla to eat..."
The Congress Avenue cafe soon became an Austin institution, catering to weather-worn street veterans as well as Austin's many mayors.
From the cowboy-boot crowd to the loafered-business class, it's the perfect place to see and be seen. And for just $4.25 lose yourself in the huevos rancheros.
Step inside for a quick bite and a long glance of just one example of what makes Austin, Austin.
